Pale Roses is a play for two actresses and a pianist. It is about the composers Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn, two women who never met in real life – but could have. While Clara lies on her deathbed, Fanny appears to her. They talk and argue about music, men, life and love. They sing their own songs and some songs of Schumann, Brahms and Mendelssohn. They seem to grow further and further apart, but in the end, when it is time for the last song, they realise they may have lost a lot in life, but they have found each other.
